A beautiful Town Hall Wedding

There are some differences in how the Wedding procedure is at the Town Halls. We have made a quick overview. Please click around and read about the different places.

JUTLAND

These two Town Halls are easy to reach from Germany. Both Town Halls are old and beautiful and a romantic place to get married. The two towns are both charming, and they have many and good accomodations.

Toender Town Hall Simple & Basic

For the couple that would like a quick and easy wedding, Toender is a brilliant solution. It is easy to reach and has a long tradition for marrying international couples. There are plenty to do and see in this charming town.

From Germany you can drive over the border to Toender, you can also take the train or bus from Germany. If you choose to fly into Denmark, the nearest airport is Billund Airport.

  • The Town Hall is open for weddings Monday, Thursdays and Fridays.

  • After your documents has been approved, we can book a wedding date and time to you immediately after – Toender has normally no waiting time.

  • You may bring 2 witnesses (Please let us know in advance)

  • You can show your documentes at the same day, that you are getting married at the latest half an hour before.

  • The wedding ceremony takes around 10-15 minutes.

Ribe / Esbjerg Town Hall

Imagine being wed in the oldest Nordic city, overflowing with history along its cobblestone streets and where fine and brilliantly colored houses from the Middle Ages stand shoulder to shoulder in the city center. Ribe’s medieval center with its winding streets and beautiful buldings is the obvious choice for a romantic wedding. The setting for a civil ceremony in Ribe is quite exceptional.

Det Gamle Rådhus (The Old Town Hall) in Ribe is Denmark’s oldest Town Hall, built before 1496. From 1708, it was used as the city’s Town Hall, where city counsil meetings were held until 2007. In the old public hall and along the hallways, there is collections of protraits of the vassela and county governors from 1600-1900.

In Esbjerg, the Gamle Ting- og Arresthus (The Old City Hall & Jailhouse) from 1892 sets the romantic scene for your wedding. Centrally located on the Main Square in the heart of Esbjerg, ceremonies are held in the beautiful wedding room.

There is approximately 30 km from the German border to Ribe and you can reach the town by car or train from Germany. The nearest airport is Billund Airport.

  • You can get married at the Old Townhall every Friday and Saturdays in even weeks and at the Ting- og Arresthuset  in Esbjerg every Friday and on Saturdays in uneven weeks.

  • After your application has been approved, we can book a time for you right away. There is normally no waiting time.

  • You may bring 2 witnesses (please let us know in advance)

  • You must meet 20 minutes before your wedding. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9-13 (9 am – 1 pm). Please bring all the documents you have emailed for having your approval for your application to show to the staff.

  • The wedding ceremony takes 10-15 minutes.

AEROE – The wedding island

Aeroe Town Hall 

Aeroe is home to a little more than 6.000 people and it’s located just south of the bigger island of Funen in central Denmark. The island is small enough to make it easy to navigate and big enough to have a lot to offer, whether you come for culture and local specialities or simply for the idyllic landscapes and sandy beaches. Do you want to be a part of the great wedding adventure at Aeroe, where several thousands of couples from all over the world are getting married each year, then you should choose this destination.

When getting married at Aeroe even the trip across on a small car ferry is enjoyable – take the ferry from the city of Svendborg on South Funen, from where it’s a 75-minute journey to the harbor of Aeroeskoebing.

You can reach Svendborg from Germany by car or taking the train or bus. The nearest airport is Billund airport.

  • You can get married Tuesday through Friday, and the first Saturday of the month

  • After your application has been approved, it is possible to book your wedding date immediately after.

  • You may bring two witnesses (Please let us know in advance)

  • Your need to come the day before your wedding date to the wedding office to show your documents (the same documents that you emailed when you applied)

  • The office is open 9-12 Monday through Friday

  • The ceremony takes 10-15 minutes

ZEALAND

Copenhagen/Frederiksberg

Copenhagen is a very romantic city and the perfect place to get married. The city has everything you can dream of, cool restaurants, nice cafées, interesting museums and beautiful parks. The city is also famous for all its bike riders and you can easily rent a bike and drive around in this breath taking city and  you can even go for a swim in the harbor. There is a love bridge in Copenhagen like in Paris, Bryggebroen, to hang a locker as a symbol of your love.

Fredriksberg Town hall is also situated in Copenhagen and is a good alternative, if the waiting time is too long in Copenhagen Town hall or if you are going to get married on a Tuesday.

You can take a flight to Copenhagen airport or take a ferry from Sweden. You can also take a train from Germany.

  •  You can get married every day of the week except Tuesdays and Sundays. (Frederiksberg Town hall – all days except Sundays)

  • You have to wait around 3 weeks from the approval from the state office to getting at wedding date due to business at the wedding office. If you choose Frederiksberg Town hall it will take 2 weeks to have your wedding date.

  • You may bring you own 2 witnesses to the wedding (please let us know this in advance)

  • You need to show your documents the day before at the wedding office – the office is open between 10-12 Monday – Friday.

  • Frederiksberg: You need to come the day before to the town hall to show you documents, the office is open Monday-Friday.

  • Please note that if you are going to get married a Monday, you have to go to the wedding office the Friday before to show your documents.

  • The wedding ceremony takes 10-15 minutes

Elsinore City Hall

Elsinore is world famous for Hamlet’s castle (Kronborg) castle. The town is beautifully situated at the coast close to Sweden. This romantic pearl of a town has a lot to offer. Get married in the beautiful old Town Hall and have your wedding photos taken at the castle and/or in the old medieval town! Explore the town full of nice cafées and restaurants or take a ferry trip to Sweden.

You can take a flight to Copenhagen airport and from there take the train to Elsinore (it takes appx 45 minutes) or take a ferry from Sweden. You can also take a train form Germany.

  • You can get married every day of the week and some Saturdays.

  • You can get the approval immediately after the approval from the state office

  • You may bring your own 2 witnesses to the wedding (Please let us know this in advance)

  • You need to be at the Town hall 15 minutes before the wedding ceremony. Please bring your passports.

  • The wedding ceremony takes 10-15 minutes
